While the group recovered from the bandit fight, Ellery was confronted by Caulifla, another Saiyan sent by their “prince” to bring her home. Caulifla mocked Ellery for running away and for being weak. Ellery declared she meant to find another Saiyan named Kakarot to prove her strength. Caulifla decided to make it a competition and left. The group then opened a chest recovered from the bandits and found a schedule suggesting that a high-profile figure in the city was coming to collect their “cut” of some illicit earnings.
Back at the Mercenary’s Rest, the owner, Bran, greeted the group. When Ellery mentioned Kakarot, Kip took her to a nearby Cackler Barrel restaurant and pointed out a picture on the wall of a small figure with spiky black hair and a monkey tail, guessing that Kakarot might be connected to The Cacklers. It gave Ellery her first solid lead.
With their investigation stalled, the group decided to resupply. Bran gave them a list of local shops, including the Mariner’s Armory for weapons, the Potion Haven, and the Arcane Emporium for magic goods. A town crier then announced the arrest of city council member Tobias Bigsby based on “compelling testimony” from a “brave and vigilant citizen,” meaning Wilbur. The group worried the authorities had only caught a “cog in the wheel” and not the real mastermind.
