The Golden Bagpipes are a magical instrument that Nelda won from a devil in a musical duel with her soul on the line.
History
At the end of Session 47, Nelda was reluctantly playing a song at Bran’s request in the Mercenary’s Rest when the doors swung open on a red devil holding golden bagpipes, smirking. In Session 48, he challenged her to a musical duel: her soul against the instrument.
The lawyer Rusty Dunlaw helped the party negotiate the infernal contract so its terms were at least survivable. Nelda accepted, and with magical help from her friends she won. The devil vanished back to the fire plane and left the golden pipes at her feet.
Nelda had played bagpipes long before this. She woke the party with them on the road (Session 14), played them at the festival’s closing ceremonies (Session 27), and gave a mini concert for the crew at sea (Session 37).
