Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 47 of 83 · Arc: Back on the Saline Coast · Where: Saline Coast, Mercenary’s Rest

The Fellowship was still in the crypt with an unconscious Victor Blackwood. Ellery decided to chase the fleeing necromancer. Kip healed her, and Nelda used a thunderwave to launch her up through the hole in the ceiling. Nelda misty-stepped after her. Escher pulled a key from a false tooth in Tobias Blackwood’s mouth and then misty-stepped after them too. While searching for the necromancer, Escher came across a homeless man with an eye patch sleeping by a pond. He tried to steal the eye patch with an invisible spectral hand, but the man knew a spell had been cast anyway. After receiving three silver for his trouble, the man pricked Escher’s hand, and Escher fell unconscious.

Ellery sprinted after the necromancer toward the docks. Nelda, far behind, began searching buildings and opened the door of a blacksmith’s hut closed up for the night. The wizard was standing against the back wall, holding a spell ready for whoever came in. Hit by it, Nelda screamed, and Ellery turned and ran back. Ellery burst into the building to attack, but the necromancer hurled a circle of death past her that knocked Nelda unconscious, and then escaped through a dimension door.

The party realized Escher was missing and that the warnings about talking to homeless people had gone unheeded. They found him through a sending stone ping from Wilbur, only to learn he was “currently paralyzed.” He insisted nobody could look in his bag because he was “trying to take a dump.”

With the immediate threat gone, the Fellowship talked priorities. There were concerns about Escher taking an outside job, for the organization The Whisper had recommended him to, targeting an old retired judge. Still, they confirmed their main goal was to go to Kip’s hometown and help his mother. Ellery sensed a giant, pulsing wall of energy to the south, relentless and spiking wildly out of control. The subject of the Saiyan Kale came up again: scrawny and timid, but extremely angry and coming to fight Ellery. The exhausted party, Nelda battered and bleeding, went back to the Mercenary’s Rest. When Nelda reluctantly began a song at Bran’s request to close out the night, the doors swung open to reveal a red devil hoisting golden bagpipes, smirking.
