Quick facts

Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 48 of 83 · Arc: Back on the Saline Coast · Where: Mercenary’s Rest, Saline Coast; the road out of town

The red devil in the doorway of the Mercenary’s Rest challenged Nelda to a musical duel for the highest stakes: her soul against his magical instrument. With help from the lawyer Rusty Dunlaw, the party negotiated the infernal contract so the terms were at least survivable. Nelda accepted. Boosted by her friends’ magic, she gave a high-stakes performance and beat the devil, who vanished back to the fire plane and left the golden pipes at her feet.

The next morning the party prepared to leave, buying a reinforced, “pimped-out” wagon and stocking up on supplies. Their departure was soured by a scathing article in the Coast Chronicle criticizing their recent activities and calling them a public nuisance. Before leaving, Nelda visited her father, Thalorian Valedriss, looking for information. The meeting was cold. He warned her that the Velvet Truffle Company was watching her friends and that he would not protect her if she chose to oppose them. Then he ordered her out of his house.

On the road, the monotony of travel was broken when a massive bullette burst up from beneath their path. It leapt and crushed their new wagon, badly injuring several party members, and the group scrambled to defend themselves against the burrowing monster.
