Quick facts
Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 8 of 83 · Arc: The Festival Conspiracy · Where: Saline Coast, Rusty Anchor
After the battle with the animated weapons, a young elf named Nelda arrived at Wilbur’s shop. She had overheard talk at the Rusty Anchor about a “Tourist Tinker Terrorist Terrorizes Town” and figured it meant Wilbur. She introduced herself to the group, Kip and Ellery among them, mentioned that she had studied abroad, and shared what she knew about the conspiracy. A beggar came by the shop, and Kip, prompted by Ellery, gave him a turnip. When Nelda heard the group mention “E.R.,” she identified him as a poker player named Eldon Reed, a big new lead.
The group pooled what they knew. Escher revealed he had found and followed the girl from the Felix incident. He had overheard her talking to a fancy dwarf with a monocle who was shocked by Bigsby’s arrest and worried about “snoopers.” Nelda identified the dwarf as Orin Coppercoin, the city treasurer. The group began to suspect that the man who bought the smoke bomb from Wilbur had been disguised as Tobias Bigsby, and that the real culprit might be the economic advisor, Tobias Blackwood. With Nelda’s deep knowledge of the city’s political players, they realized she could be a great help.
A heavy mist rolled into the city and conversations dropped to whispers. Escher overheard a secret meeting in an alley outside the Rusty Anchor, where people discussed a “masquerade” as the perfect cover and the need to deal with “loose ends” and anyone who got too curious. Between Nelda’s intel and Escher’s eavesdropping, the group was now sure a deep and dangerous plot was underway, with the upcoming masquerade ball likely at its center.
