Quick facts
Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 16 of 83 · Arc: The Bloodhowler · Where: The road south; the Last Drop tavern
With Gurgle’s clan defeated, the group had to decide what to do with Squeebles, who immediately pledged his loyalty. The party was split. Kip found him annoying and untrustworthy, while Nelda felt responsible for him and argued he should stay. Squeebles offered to cook to win them over, but his quick willingness to hypothetically eat Wilbur if he had to pick a victim raised red flags. They let him take first watch, and Nelda woke uneasy to find him staring at her.
The next morning Squeebles made scrambled eggs he said were “procured” from local farms, which sounded a lot like stolen. Steve was showing signs of serious illness, breathing heavily and sweating, and Nelda feeding him some of the eggs probably didn’t help. An owlbear forced the group to move carefully until they reached a rugged tavern on the edge of a desert.
At the tavern, the Last Drop, Wilbur paid the bartender a few gold to look after the ailing Steve, but overheard a conversation suggesting the donkey would be gotten rid of as soon as they left. Then a towering figure walked in, and Wilbur recognized him as Eldon Reed. Escher, invisible, discovered that Eldon was using a disguise spell to hide his true form: a monstrous half-orc standing eight feet ten inches tall. Eldon delivered a chilling threat to Wilbur, “I’ll make sure they remember you, Wilbur. Every last scream,” and turned to leave. Wilbur impulsively attacked him.
