Quick facts
Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 42 of 83 · Arc: Khalor and the Company at Sea · Where: Buttermere, Breadstock
The group hurried back to find their ship being boarded by Velvet Truffle Company members. They were confronted by an official named Gravy Bones, who questioned them about the murder of a company employee named Kenton Rusk and about a wanted man, Tobias Blackwood. When Gravy Bones asked about someone named “Escher,” the party tried to deflect by saying the Escher they knew was just a harmless teenage prankster. Kip, trying to be helpful and truthful, told the officials that Escher was exceptionally good at disguises, which only confirmed their suspicions. The officials left, but posted two men to wait for Escher’s return.
Escher eventually came back and, learning the company was waiting for him, decided to face them as the teenage prankster the group had described. He played “Ernest,” an oblivious teen, but the officials weren’t fooled and demanded a pat-down, which he refused. After a tense standoff, Ellery and Nelda intimidated the men off the ship, with Ellery warning them never to call her a “bitch” again. In a private conversation afterward, it came out that Escher had been paid blood money for the assassination and had another kill assignment in Salt Lake City, which shocked the rest of the group.
The party then competed at Breadstock as “The FAM Band” and took third place. During the festival, Nelda had a romantic encounter with a musician named Verio Nightwind, who performed a heartfelt song he had written about her. Encouraged by Ellery, Nelda hugged him before they parted, with plans to maybe meet again if both made the finals. As the group left the festival, they looked up at the cliffs and saw a dragon flying toward them in the moonlight.
