Quick facts

Type: State · Island: The Dwarven Isles · Neighbor: Takkoh · Known for: its prince, whose death Arghen is sworn to avenge

Bureetoe is a state in the Dwarven Isles, in the northern ocean. The FAM have not been there. It matters to the story through its prince, the “Prince of Bureetoe,” and through Arghen, whose whole reason for hunting a dragon traces back to him.

Arghen and the Prince of Bureetoe

Arghen is a dragon hunter driven by one goal: to kill the gold dragon he blames for the Prince of Bureetoe’s death. That dragon is Khalor the Dreamreaper.

  • Guilt (Session 33). Arghen woke from a days-long sleep demanding that the party’s “magic friend” bring someone back from the dead. He did not mean Wilbur. He meant the Prince of Bureetoe, and he confessed that he felt responsible for the prince’s death.
  • The talon. After the dragon stole the chest from the wreck of the Sapphire Tide, Arghen pulled out a petrified golden dragon talon and said his honor demanded he kill the dragon.
  • The accusation (Session 43). On the cliffs outside Buttermere, Arghen faced the dragon in its human disguise and accused it of killing the Prince of Bureetoe of the Dwarven Isles, declaring that it would die for the crime. The dragon dropped its disguise and asked how far Arghen would chase it for revenge. Arghen answered, “To the ends of Arlia.”
  • Dwarven ties. Arghen speaks what appears to be Dwarvish. In The In-Between he gave up his last memory of his mother to pay the skeletal gambler.
  • After the gallows. In Session 83 Khalor took Arghen alive, saying “That’s who I’ve been looking for.” Khalor had said earlier, “I thought he would follow me.”
