Captain Rootbeard is a pirate captain and werewolf. His bite passed a curse to Greene that turned into the Cacklers’ “were-tiger” problem.
History
Before the campaign, Oolong sailed with the Crew of the Rootbeer Float until Captain Rootbeard and his crew captured him.
Later, Ibeesee imprisoned Captain Barqs and handed the Rootbeer Float over to Rootbeard. On Scotch on the Rocks, the exhausted Cacklers walked into a tavern looking for a fight and found ten Rose Ribbon Army soldiers behind a curtain. As they struggled, Rootbeard burst through the door, turning into a werewolf as he charged. He knocked out Terra and landed a cursed bite on Greene. Then Oolong polymorphed into a giant ape, and Rootbeard let out a yelp like a wounded dog and ran for the door.
The ape picked up Terra, who said “Yes,” and threw her through the casino window into the street. She landed on the fleeing Rootbeard and brought her axe down, splitting him right down the middle. Rose Ribbon reinforcements arrived to find a werewolf “butterflied like a filet minion” in the street.
Legacy
The werewolf bite mixed with the curse from The Collector’s attack and turned Greene into the Were-Cackler under the next full moon. Greene then bit Oolong and Juliette. Cures failed, and the party learned that ending the curse would mean killing every were-creature up the line to the original, though no one knew who had bitten Rootbeard. The transformation was finally removed through a deal with a sea hag.
