The crew of the Rootbeer Float is the pirate crew Oolong sailed with before he was captured. After the Cacklers freed them in Beerlia, they became the party’s ride for the rest of Campaign 1.
History
Rescue in Beerlia
Sneaking through a port city in Beerlia, the party heard starving prisoners in the local jail. They found a group of pirates in the cells: the crew Oolong used to sail with before Captain Rootbeard and his crew captured him. The crew rejoiced at seeing Oolong and sang a shanty in his honor. The party freed them and headed for the Rootbeer Float, losing Ashryn to an assassin on the way out.
Joey’s trial
On the way to Scotch on the Rocks, the party found Barqs’ son Joey hiding aboard. He had sold the ship to the Rose Ribbon Army. The party and crew held a trial on deck, found him guilty of treason and mutiny, and banished him.
Losing the ship
While the Cacklers were caught up in North City, Greylock usurped Barqs as captain. Ibeesee then imprisoned them both and handed the ship to Captain Rootbeard. The Cacklers freed Barqs and his crew from the cellar of Ibeesee’s casino.
Captain Oolong
Barqs captained the ship until Oolong took over, at which point Barqs became first mate. During the naval battle in North City, Barqs dimension-doored himself and Oolong straight onto the ship, died on deck at the hands of an invisible mage, and was revived by Juliette. The Rootbeer Float later took to the sky.
The crash
On the way to Rice Town, a dragon and Rose Ribbon soldiers attacked the airship, and it crashed into the ice. Barqs mourned crew members Harry, Marge, Rumti and Satchel, all beaten and unresponsive after the crash: “This is all my fault.” He partially repaired the ship and picked the party up later.
After the war
After Shenlong’s wish, Barqs woke in North City asking, “Where’s my bird boy?” Greene took the helm and set sail toward North City.
