Ruby is the daughter of Juliette and Will. In Campaign 1 she was a three-year-old Juliette had lost to the Rose Ribbon Army; in Campaign 1.5 and Campaign 2 she is a member of The Cacklers who wields high-level magic. She is not the same person as the Gem Ruby of the Collector’s Gems.
History
Campaign 1
Ruby and her father were killed by Sgt. Major Maroon, the dragonborn Juliette faced at Fortuneteller Yaba’s palace. When Juliette died in Grimscale Tower, she saw Will and their three-year-old daughter in the dream plane and chose to leave them and go back to her friends. She later told Greene that leaving Will and Ruby there felt like “sacrificing them all over again.”
Shenlong’s wish revived everyone the Rose Ribbon Army had killed. Juliette took the portal home, and her daughter ran into her arms: “Mommy, I missed you. Where were you? You were gone for hours.”
Campaign 1.5
About twenty years later, Ruby was grown and fighting with her mother’s old friends. Her parents were still together. A tall man with black hair, “Uncle Reese,” dropped by now and then to say hello, but never stayed for dinner (C1.5 Chapter 01). In the Tabasco Forest, Perfect Cell nearly cut her down with a kienzan: “What kind of mother sends her daughter out here anyway? That’s just negligence.” (C1.5 Chapter 02)
Jimmy Firecracker introduced her at the Cell Games as Ruby Capulet, “the beautiful daughter of the one and only Juliette,” educated at the Cacklers Academy for Gifted Students (CAGS). When the fight turned bad, Ruby called on divine intervention and wished for everyone to be completely healed. Time froze, and The Trickster stood before her. “This is a tall ask. I’ll make a bargain. I’ll give it to you, but you have to come with me now.” Ruby said, “Okay. Bye.” Everyone was healed, and Ruby was no longer on the battlefield. She had been summoned to serve as a representative in a civil war among the deities, The War in the Heavens (C1.5 Chapter 03).
Campaign 2
Ruby is with the Cacklers in North City. When Escher was caught stealing from the Cacklers’ collection, Ruby cast Zone of Truth on him, and he couldn’t resist it (Session 63). Later she had a vision in which The Trickster admitted he had started a civil war among the gods by intercepting divine invitations and rerouting mortal prayers (Session 64); see The War in the Heavens.
On the night before The Cell Games, Ruby used high-level magic to purge the cursed souls from Nelda’s glaive. The ritual revealed that the soul of Nelda’s father had been shielding her from the worst of the weapon’s torment (Session 68).
