Quick facts
Race: Kenku shapeshifter · Works for: The Mistress · Status: Alive (as of C2 Session 83)
The Gnoloo is a shapeshifting kenku who keeps turning up wherever the Velvet Truffle Company’s strangest cargo is moving. He has crossed The FAM’s path three times.
Overview
The Gnoloo’s natural form is a cloaked humanoid with a beak. He has appeared as a giant bird, a giant dripping purple worm and a transport whale. He does not work for the VTC directly. His master is The Mistress, as he told the party himself, and some of what he does ends up benefiting the company.
Sightings
- Salted Caramel Cove (Session 34): At the VTC’s underwater base at Salted Caramel Cove, the stolen chest from the shipwreck was strapped to his back while he was in the form of a transport whale, and he swam off with it toward Chonkerton. Escher watched it happen.
- Judge Vellum’s death (Session 56): Just after Escher and Wilbur killed Judge Marius Vellum at a midnight ghost petal drop, a massive bird-like creature came down from the sky, looked over the bodies, and flew off with the entire wagon of ghost petals.
- Coghaven (Session 79): The party hid in lockers in Bay 4 of Coghaven’s Packaging, Shipping & Logistics to ambush whoever came for an expedited VTC crate of volatile green and purple crystals. Minutes before pickup, a giant dripping purple worm came down through a hole in the ceiling, circled the crate, and shrank into a cloaked, beaked humanoid. He recognized the party’s scent and accused them of following him.
The Coghaven encounter
Wilbur and Escher recognized him as the bird that had taken the ghost petal wagon. He admitted he sometimes does things that benefit the VTC, but said he works for someone else: the Mistress. He shrugged off Masha’s attempt to charm him. When Wilbur tried to bond with him over his girlfriend Bulma, the Gnoloo remarked that Bulma sleeps with a lot of short men. One of the crate’s five protective spells was dispelled during the encounter, leaving four. Eager to leave, he introduced himself as “the Gnoloo,” announced that he was taking the crate back to the Mistress, his master, and began turning back into a giant worm.
