Campaign: Campaign 2 · Session: 51 of 83 · Arc: Green Hollow and the Cult of Brandoboris · Where: Green Hollow, the Farmer’s Hoe tavern

Conflict brewed in Green Hollow as Kip tried to get out of the legal and personal trap set by Alana and her father, Sawyer. Kip’s brother, Pipkin, refused to use his influence to void the marriage contract and offered only prayers. Ellery took a more direct approach, kidnapping one of Sawyer’s gardeners and tying him up for information. That led to a tense confrontation when Alana arrived with a group of halflings, called Nelda a “prostitute,” and asserted her control over Kip’s estate.

Tensions rose at the Cornucopia festival in the Farmer’s Hoe tavern. Kip used a zone of truth to try to prove publicly that he had been tricked and was under duress when he signed the contract. Alana used a magical ability to physically remove Kip’s mouth, silencing him mid-speech. The party nearly came to blows with the townsfolk when Wilbur drew a weapon and halfling guards moved in. It ended in a stalemate, with Sawyer looking on in amusement, confident that the magical contract still held.

The party pulled back to talk it over and realized that Kip’s memories of Alana had been traded away in the wager at the in-between (Session 31), which explained why he didn’t recognize her. While they debated, Kip suddenly collapsed with no pulse or breath. In a panic they rushed him to a private room, but healing magic had no effect.

The party then realized that Sawyer and his associates were cultists of Brandoboris, a dark halfling god of trickery: the Cult of Brandoboris. Some of the group stayed with the “dying” Kip while others went to confront Sawyer in the tavern. As the fight broke out, “horrid plants” burst out of the kitchen and attacked, spreading chaos through the village. The party was left split between a desperate battle in the tavern and a frantic effort to save Kip’s life.
