Seraphina Rusk is the Sweet Lord of the Islands Dominion of the Velvet Truffle Company. Escher killed her husband, and she is hunting him personally.
Overview
Seraphina controls the island ports, shipping, customs evasion routes and smuggling networks. She works through debt leverage, port tariffs, embargoes, asset seizures, private investigators and pressure on island governments. She is cold, patient and surgical, plays the long game, keeps meticulous records and trusts ledgers more than people. Beerlia, Masha’s home, falls under her Dominion, and Masha knows her organization best.
History
Her husband, Kenton Rusk, was Cocoa Consul of Chonkerton until Escher assassinated him at Hamhock Harbor (Session 39). The VTC is all but certain Escher did it.
In Session 71, Escher overheard that she had contacted Cadbury Vex twice. She knew about Asset Songbird and wanted to know whether “the Fellowship’s human” had been seen in North City, and whether he would be arrested for her. Cadbury refused, saying he wanted the whole Fellowship caught at once for the good of the company rather than for her grief, and privately remarked that Kenton had been a bore anyway.
Cadbury’s plan for brumestone-free airships would also cut around her control of the ports.
