Title: Sweet Lord of the West Dominion, Board of Sweet Lords · Controls: Factories, mines, labor, the Truffle Guard · Family: Mia Vex (daughter), a wife · Status: Alive, last seen in North City (as of C2 Session 83)

Cadbury Vex is one of the three Sweet Lords of the Velvet Truffle Company, second only to the owner, Gideon Velgrave. He is Mia Vex’s father, and he used her to plant a tracker on Nelda.

Overview

Cadbury rules the West Dominion: factories, mines, labor and the Truffle Guard. He brushes off messages from his wife. His executive assistant, Praline Marsh, reads him his reports and talks back to him. Mia says he uses her as a pawn to keep his own hands clean.

History

The Cell Games (Session 70)

Mia told Nelda that her father was one of the three highest-ranking officials in the VTC and had ordered her to plant a tracking device, Asset Songbird, on Nelda with a goodbye hug. After the meeting, he went up to the private suite at the Cackler Barrel with twelve to fifteen others. Escher slipped into the most lavish suite before the door shut and watched him prop his feet on the desk, light a cigar, and boast: “See? I told you. She can handle it. I raised her well.”

The strategy meeting (Session 71)

A halfling with a portfolio briefed him while Escher listened, invisible:

  • Songbird was live and reporting cleanly, and was expected to lead the company to wherever the Fellowship had hidden their families.
  • The monthly memorandum from the Grand Confectioner repeated The Mistress’s directive that no Dominion operation could engage the Cacklers, their households, their academy, or their affiliates. Cadbury brushed it aside: Nelda was only a classmate of the Cacklers, not one of them.
  • The Sugar Cartel reported that the dragon had finished his assignment in the Salt Desert and was being recalled to Choco Island.
  • He was set to meet Bulma Briefs the next morning at the Garden Terrace. Bulma was offering licenses for her new airship technology, but he wanted exclusive manufacturing rights for fifty years. An airship that didn’t need brumestone would make mines, ports and Seraphina Rusk’s harbor chokepoints worthless, and he reasoned that whoever owned the sky would own the movement of everything. If Bulma refused, he planned to find what Capsule Corp was leveraged against and buy it.
  • Seraphina Rusk had contacted him twice, asking whether Escher had been seen in North City and whether he would be arrested for her. He confirmed Escher had been identified entering the stadium with the Fellowship, but refused to kick down doors. Seizing Escher alone would scatter the other five across Arlia, while Songbird would catch them all in one net. He wanted the Fellowship erased as a problem for the company, not as revenge for Seraphina’s grief. He added that Kenton had been a bore anyway, and ordered that remark kept out of his reply.

As the meeting ended, Escher was discovered, killed a guard, and escaped with a pistol round through his shoulder.

Mia’s double game

Mia confessed to Nelda that she didn’t even work for the VTC. Her father had also asked her to slip a friend an experimental love potion to keep Cedric Lightharbor Jr. in North City, so the company could better control his father. Mia told Nelda what she was doing even as she planted the tracker, which Cadbury does not know. Nelda argued that Mia deserved a chance to repair her relationship with her father, so the FAM agreed they would rather get him fired than killed.

Wilbur urged Bulma not to make deals with the VTC, and she agreed to take his words under advisement.

Relationships

  • Mia Vex: His daughter, whom he uses as a pawn.
  • Seraphina Rusk: Fellow Sweet Lord. He resists her personal hunt for Escher.
  • Bulma Briefs: The VTC is negotiating with her over airship rights.
